Why We're All About Linen

Let’s talk about linen. At sea-m, we’re unapologetically obsessed with it. But beyond the fact it makes you look effortlessly cool and put-together, there’s a reason linen is the hero of our wardrobe - and our planet.

Here's why it deserves a starring role in your wardrobe.

Linen comes from the flax plant, which sounds very wholesome because... it is. Unlike cotton (which can be a bit of a thirsty diva), flax grows happily with minimal water, no fancy irrigation, and a lot less drama. It’s hardy, low-maintenance, and needs far fewer chemicals to thrive.

From plant to pants: how linen is made

We won’t go full science lesson on you, but here’s the gist:

Flax is harvested (often by hand) when the stalks are golden and lovely.

The plants are left to ret – a natural process that breaks down the outer stalk using dew, rain and microbes. No nasty chemicals needed.

The fibres are separated, spun into yarn, and then woven into that breezy, beautiful linen we know and love.

This process is not only gentler on the environment, but the entire flax plant is used – meaning zero waste. The seeds go into linseed oil, the rest into food, paper, and even insulation. Nothing goes unused.

Why We love It

Low water usage – Flax needs way less water than cotton. Translation: good news for the planet.

Fewer chemicals – Flax is naturally pest-resistant, which means minimal pesticides and fertilisers.

Biodegradable – When linen’s time is up (not for decades, ideally), it breaks down naturally. No landfill guilt.

Built to last – Linen gets softer with every wash, wears in not out, and won’t throw in the towel after one summer.

It’s basically the fabric equivalent of a loyal friend: low drama, high quality, always makes you look good.
